The Health Law, Ethics and Policy Training
Program is part of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)'s
Strategic Training Initiative in Health Research (STIHR).
Created in 2001, our program has attracted over 71 trainees and
provided them a unique matrix of training. The program aims to
equip graduates with the skills necessary to address the legal
and ethical challenges presented by quick evolving changes in
health care.
There is an overwhelming demand for our students: all our
graduates are pursuing further study in health law or employed
in academia, in private practice, or as decision-makers. Our
program also provides students with knowledge translation skills
in a number of ways, such as training them in publication
strategies and in how to make effective presentations for
decision-maker audiences. Students have the opportunity to
interact with internationally renowned Canadian scholars in
health law, ethics and policy, government decision-makers and
receive the support of a multidisciplinary team of mentors.
The Program welcomes applications from domestic and
international law graduate students (both at the Masters and
Doctoral level) based at any of our training partners: Dalhousie
University, Université de Sherbrooke, University of Alberta and
University of Toronto.
